Amergin’s director, Bryn Coldrick, has almost ten years’ experience as a heritage consultant. Previously, he was an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Consultant and subsequently EIA Manager for two leading archaeological consultancy firms in Ireland. During this time, he carried out around 170 heritage assessments in relation to residential, industrial and commercial developments as well as major infrastructure projects such as national, regional and local roads and a terrestrial gas pipeline.
Since 2003, Bryn has worked as a Heritage Assessment Officer at the Department of Indigenous Affairs and as a Senior Consultant with public sector management firm Estill & Associates. While at Estill, Bryn was Project Manager on a number of major Aboriginal heritage consultancies including the study of Aboriginal cultural values relating to groundwater on the Gnangara Mound and the preparation of the ENRICH Heritage Trail Master Plan.
Since February 2007, Bryn has worked as a freelance Aboriginal heritage consultant. He established Amergin Consulting in October 2007 and has worked on approximately 70 Aboriginal heritage assessments across the state.
Dr Edward McDonald is one of WA’s leading consulting anthropologists and has extensive Aboriginal heritage assessment/clearance survey experience, having worked in the industry since 1988. He has held the position of President of the Anthropological Society of Western Australia (ASWA) for several years and is currently ASWA’s ex officio Vice President.
Dr McDonald was previously the Principal Anthropologist and Managing Director of McDonald, Hales & Associates (one of WA’s largest Aboriginal heritage consultancies) and was one of the authors of the Aboriginal Heritage Procedures Manual. This manual forms the basis for the Department’s guidelines for Aboriginal heritage assessment in WA. Edward was also the Consulting Anthropologist for the Eastern Guruma and Thalanyji native title claims, both of which were successful.
Edward has undertaken hundreds of heritage assessments in Perth, the South West, the Goldfields, Midwest, Kimberley and Pilbara. He now operates independently as Ethnosciences and works collaboratively with Amergin Consulting on a continuous basis.
Jo Thomson is a qualified archaeologist with extensive field experience, having worked predominantly in the mining industry for eight years.
As Principal of Thomson Cultural Heritage Management, Jo now specialises in cultural heritage management including archaeological field surveys, preparation of management advice, WA government approvals, heritage audits and reviews, training and inductions, process and system development and community-based heritage projects.
Jo has provided high-quality archaeological consultancy services on behalf of Amergin and Ethnosciences on a number of recent projects in the South West and the Perth metropolitan area and we are delighted to offer her services as part of Amergin’s team.
